Journalism for Peace

Project Aim

This project encouraged Israeli and Palestinian media professionals and journalists to meet and practice mutual understanding and respect for one another by reducing or eradicating mental and physical barriers and creating a network of contacts from both sides. The project addressed contemporary issues of journalism in times of conflict and issues of professionalism in journalism in a joint Palestinian-Israeli environment in order to enhance the open flow of information.

How It Works

The project engaged journalists that do not speak the same language in order to bridge this gap and find a common language of respect and understanding. Through joint workshops, the project explored avenues through which the media can help to promote the values of respect, coexistence and cooperation between the Palestinian and Israeli publics, and encourage a peaceful resolution of the conflict. Democratic values such as freedom of the press were enhanced and strengthened, challenging journalists and other media professionals to broaden their minds and interact with the "other side", reinforcing regional stability.
