The Peres Center for Peace held the Inaugural ICM Workshop in Tel Aviv during November, 2004. The workshop marked the first in a series of conferences, meetings, and seminars centered around the topic of "Integrated Crop Management" in the Middle East region. The workshop was attended by officials and researchers from the Ministries of Agriculture of Egypt, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority and Israel, the Hebrew University's Faculty of Agriculture, and a representative from the SafeCrop Center in Italy.
The workshop included presentations, discussions, and summaries of past and present research in the field of ICM, as well as a brainstorming session to identify the project principles of the Peres Center's "Integrated Crop Management" program. The objectives discussed included: enhancing Arab-Israeli cooperation, improving pest control of the Red Palm Weevil, assessing existing projects and national programs and initiating cooperation with those establishments, strengthening the trapping system, control procedures, quarantine regulations and biological studies, training date growers and extension staff, and widely distributing all findings, results, and recommendations.
Upon the conclusion of the workshop, the participants set out a plan for future activities, goals, and conferences, and also determined an action plan for the research.
