FairPlay / football3

About the Project

"FairPlay" was developed by "streetfootballworld" in cooperation with "KICKFAIR", two organizations who believe in football for social change, in order to strengthen the elements of fairness in football and enhance the level of responsibility of individual players to play a fair game that respects the opponent. The Peres Center for Peace was exposed to this method at the Football for Hope event that took place in South Africa in 2010 within the framework of the World Cup. Since then, we have implemented and further developed the "FairPlay" method in the Twinned Peace Sports Schools Program, with the goal of promoting a fair game as a tool for dialogue and cooperation between different cultures and communities.

Project Aim

"FairPlay" is a method that was developed in the spirit of street football. The uniqueness of this method lies in its emphasis on fair behavior, crediting the team with points for "fairness" that are equal in value to regular points won from a match. The players are responsible for conducting a fair game by enforcing their own predetermined rules, without referees. This method facilitates a fair football game and reinforces the responsibility and involvement of the players in choosing the rules of the game and playing according the rules.

The Peres Center uses the "FairPlay" method in other sports as well, such as basketball and volleyball. We believe that "FairPlay" is not only for sports, but is also relevant as in everyday life. This method allows participants in the Twinned Peace Sports Schools to play in a more positive, conducive, and cooperative manner, in which the central principle is that even a "losing" team can win by playing fairly according to rules that were established democratically.

The Peres Center also conducts outreach activities and staff trainings for other organizations and establishments.
