Regional Water Research

Project Aim

This joint Israeli-Palestinian research project addresses the removal of pharmaceutical materials from treated wastewater, so that the water can be safely applied as irrigation water.

How It Works

This project is comprised of leading Israeli and Palestinian academic institutions which over a two-year period, are evaluating emerging technologies as solutions for improving the quality of drinking and irrigation water across the Middle East. The pharmaceutical materials studied in the research were chosen based on their occurrence in aquatic environments. This project facilitates one of the only joint Israeli-Palestinian water research studies to date. In addition to the cross-border collaboration of Palestinian and Israeli researchers, a number of Palestinian master and doctoral students will take part in a student exchange program in Israel, in order to further advance the academic and peace building elements of the project. This projected is supported by SANOFI, a major international pharmaceutical company.
